Identification and Separation of Lignin for the Production of Wood-Free Paper
Paper mills using recycled waste paper as their feedstock are specifying more and more stringent standards regarding the quality of the supplied input material.
This is especially true for the processing of high grades, where lower paper qualities (traditionally higher wood content) are not welcome. Conventional NIR and color spectroscopy is not quite capable of identifying wood-free from wood-containing papers of the same color. To address this issue MSS developed a lignin sensor that measures lignin content which in turn allows determining the wood content.
