Scale Up Issues on Mineral Optical Sorting Plants: Bridging the Gaps in Sorting Quality
Mintek is a minerals processing research centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, which services the local and international mining community. Mintek have had an ore sorting facility on site since 2001 and have evaluated sorting techniques on a wide variety of ore types, including gold ores, PGM ores, base metals and industrial minerals. Mintek offers clients laboratory and pilot scale testwork campaigns and also offer assistance in plant commissioning and auditing.
Mintek is thus in the fortunate position to be able to follow sorting projects from development phase through to implementation on site. This experience has provided an opportunity to examine and compare sorter performance (particularly pertaining to the quality of sort attained) on pilot scale and full scale.
