In-Situ Bioremediation in the saturated zone – state-of-the-art

The project INTERLAND was carried out from 2002 to 2005. It has been the largest research project on contaminated land in Austria so far.

One of the central tasks of the project was the development of guidelines for experts of authorities for new and innovative hydrocarbon remediation methods. Amongst others the methods “Biosparging” (BS) and “Ground Water Circulation Wells” (GWCW) were examined. Their range as well as their limits of application were determined. Furthermore the prerequisites of the sites themselves were laid down. All these results were summarized in a guideline for each method. As these two methods have certain similarities, also the two guidelines have similarities.
