“Austrian Cut-off Walls” – an Efficient Technique to Secure Waste Deposits Economically
In the last two decades, the thin-slurry-wall-technology could be successfully improved, developing into the so called Austrian Cut-off Wall-technology.
In this period much more than 2,000,000 m2 were installed. Due to increasing requirements, specially regarding the tightness, in most cases the “Vienna chamber-system”, consisting of two parallel driven walls with transversal sections has proved to be mostly adequate.
Although being double installed, there are economic benefits in general comparing with a monoguided impermeable diaphragm wall. Additionally the “Vienna chamber-system” has the advantage of being redundant with reference to the water tables inside and outside of the sealing- wall system.
