The Austrian Way to Implement the WEEE-Directive – First Results

The Packaging Ordinance and the End-of-Life-Vehicle Ordinance are proved for several years now. On 29th April 2005 the WEEE-Ordinance was proclaimed, eight months later than expected. Producers and Collection and Recovery Systems (CR-Systems) had hardly time (four months instead of a year) for preparation. On 13th August 2005 the WEEE-Ordinance entered into force and five CRSystems are now approved to organize the collection and recycling of WEEE in Austria. From today’s point of view the targets of the Ordinance have been met.
