Chemical Imaging: A powerful Tool for Sorting Applications and Process Analysis in the Mining and Food Industries
Chemical Imaging is today an established technology for many sensor based sorting applications. Unifying the advantages of laboratory based (near infrared NIR) spectroscopy and spatially resolved product information known from machine vision it also bears a great potential as process analysis technology (PAT).
In this study results from mineral sorting such as calcite and dolomite or quartz vs. feldspar are shown, stressing the fact that this sensor technology opens up a new window into applications formerly not accessible by classical optical (VIS) inspection systems.
Moreover, the potential of such systems being suitable for the use as PAT tool shall be presented, by illustrating results from an industrial application where HELIOS operates to control a production process and monitors product quality via inference of quantitative concentration levels of the chemical constituent at stake.
