Life History of the Leoben Waste Landfill Site - Twentyfive Years of Operation – Hundred Years of Sustainability
During the first half of the 20th century, several different dumping sites, distributed in two different town districts of Leoben, were used for the disposal of collected municipal solid waste.
By the end of the sixties, it was decided to provide a new, centralized landfill site, located at the Moskenbergstraße in the Seegraben area. The entire amount of emerged municipal solid waste was dumped into the downward inclined and open valley formation. By that time, the water right permission only required an installment of pipes in order to establish a coordinated water Drainage flow system. No permission was obligatory at that time for dumping of the waste material.
