Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory in the Waste Industry

Calculating greenhouse gas emissions is a commonly discussed theme nowadays, both in public and private discourse. While it is relevant for production and supply chain management in general, it is of particular relevance for the waste industry where agents are often called on to provide data on the extent and origin of specific greenhouse gas emissions.

As yet, no uniform approach has been developed for preparing a CO2 inventory (also known as Carbon Footprint). This absence of standardization results in a clear lack of comparability when trying to assess the relative impact of greenhouse gas emission statements or various types of Carbon Footprint. This paper intends to help overcome this problem by devising recommendations for a standardized approach to emission assessment for the waste industry.
