Environmentally benign and cost optimal phosphoric acid production through a systematic process design framework
In the present work we address the cost optimal and environmentally efficient design of industrial scale phosphoric acid production processes. We develop a framework that aims to facilitate the design and optimization of phosphoric acid production processes in order to propose solutions that improve the performance of the existing production technologies. The proposed framework is built upon am iterative procedure where design detail is added to the developed optimum process schemes based on evaluation of the generated designs.
The framework allows the employed models to be independent of the processes they are expected to emulate as it is developed through use of generic process modules, thus facilitating design variability and flowsheet interconnectivity. To further enhance the representation of processing conditions addressed in industrial practice, the proposed framework is coupled with a systematic method to enable the efficient incorporation of uncertainties stemming from frequent variations observed in numerous external and internal process factors affecting the process performance. The beneficial effects of the proposed developments are demonstrated through an extensive case study of industrial interest.
