Construction with Plastic Bottles and Debris

The ECO-TEC method, a system where individuals and families learn by working together to form a structure that will be of benefit to the community, utilizes non-returnable PET bottles as bricks, filling them with soil, gravel, plastic trash, or other materials from the site. The PET bottle bricks are linked together to form a coherent structure.

Current Methodology: The ECO-TEC building system utilizes PET bottles filled with rubble, soil, and plastic debris. In addition, the system utilizes synthetic rope, wire, and natural materials found near the project site. The structures are assembled with the active participation of individuals from the community, who learn by doing the process. Community participants perform functions of organizers, masons, and helpers and might belong to any socioeconomic status or education level. Comparative Cost: The cost to fund an ECO-TEC project is far lower than many construction methods, while the benefits are beyond measure. ECO-TEC projects respond to basic needs for shelter and water, protect the environment, increase community connections, empower and inspire marginalized populations, reduce CO2 emissions, develop recycling infrastructure, and reduce reliance on landfills.
