High performance filtration fabric units for sludge dewatering and containment
Many industries utilize water for processing and for the movement and storage of by-products and waste. This results in large volumes of liquid or slurry-like materials being stored in impoundments, or being treated before discharge into lakes, rivers and streams. In the past, many industry by-products were discharged directly into water courses where they have settled, and over time, have contaminated the sediments of these water courses.
The use of mechanical dewatering technologies is well known in the industry. In most cases these technologies need an extra containment step to store the dewatered cake. Geotube® technology is a two in one system that is serving both requirements. The technology is a recent developed one that has proven its value in several small scale and large projects. Performance Filtration Fabric principal, have been used as a means of disposing of, and dewatering, for waste and contaminated sediments. This paper examines the use of high performance filtration fabric units as containment for dewatering slurry waste and contaminated sediments in the environment and several industries.
